The Dangers of Trump / Vance and the RNC

As Americans collectively process the shocking events of last weekend in Pennsylvania, the Republican National Convention has kicked off in Milwaukee.

The decisions and deals made at the RNC this week will have profound implications for the nation as the MAGA movement concentrates its agenda and focuses on some of the most dangerous policies within Project 2025.

The fact is, a second Trump presidency is an even more significant threat to democracy than it would have been if he’d won four years ago.

Here's a roundup of where we are:

Project 2025: This Heritage Foundation’s vision for the future has an outsized presence at the RNC. Plans include dismissing up to 54,000 government workers, rolling back LGBTQ+ protections, increasing Christian influence in our government, and passing a de facto nationwide abortion ban, to name a few.

Vice Presidential Pick: Trump has selected J.D. Vance as his vice presidential nominee. This selection answers any remaining questions about the direction of the Republican party. On issues like abortion, Vance is to the RIGHT of Trump.

GOP Platform: The RNC has passed a 2024 platform that should alarm everyone. It calls for the "largest deportation operation in American history," pushes for increased fossil fuel production, cuts federal funding for schools that cover systemic racism or LGBTQ+ issues in their curriculum, restricts women's rights, and implements voting measures to limit poll access. Other proposals would decimate Social Security and Medicare, restrict IVF, and enforce a nationwide abortion ban.

This platform is more extreme than any we’ve seen in recent memory and is a culmination of decades of influence by Christian Nationalist mega-donors and activists.

I will keep saying it: This race isn't just about TX-26 – it's about protecting the very foundation of our country. Brandon Gill has the same far-right stance on abortion as J.D. Vance, and his conspiracies rival those of Alex Jones.

With a potential Trump/Vance presidency on the horizon, the last thing we need is Gill in Congress. We need to win every single seat possible this November. I’m asking you to stand with me today to protect our fragile democracy. I believe we can bring our nation back from the brink of authoritarianism and this extremist agenda if we stick together, but we are running out of time. Let’s double down on democracy and flip this open-seat Democrat for the future.
